These are writing prompts for Writing Workshop:

  1. Listening To Directions — You drew some faces in boxes based on directions that were given as part of a listening activity. Sept. 1
  2. Literary Terms — You copied down a chart of important literary terms for this year and made some notes. Sept. 1
  3. Rikki Doodles — You practiced active listening by making sketches and doodles as you listened to the Rikki Tikki Tavi story. Sept. 1
  4. Design a Treehouse — You designed an imaginary treehouse (reality not required) with labels of important parts. Sept. 5
  5. The Triangleope — You listened to direction to draw this creature. Sept. 6
  6. Harris Burdick — You used one of the illustrations to write a story in First Person Narrative Point of View. Sept. 13
  7. Freewrite — You wrote whatever you wanted to write about. Sept. 14
  8. Character Cards — You used the cards to create a backstory/biography of a character. Sept. 15
  9. Flingledobe and Pribin — You answered questions about a short text, using comprehension skills. Sept. 18
  10. When Characters Meet – You had two characters (from our cards) meet, and the story was about the interaction. Sept. 20
  11. Dream Scene — You wrote the draft of your responses for the Dream Scene, and then worked on a final in Google Classroom. Sept. 21
  12. Magic Door Story — You used the map to create an adventure story. Sept. 25
  13. Objects Talking — You explored the correct formatting and punctuation for writing dialogue, with two objects having a conversation. Sept. 28
  14. Rain Forest Adventure — You glued in the sequence of story of the man in the jungle. Oct. 3
  15. Listening To The Wild — You did active listening with a National Park site and answered a series of short prompts. Oct. 11
  16. Falling Leaf — You wrote a story in first person narrative point of view of a leaf, falling from a tree. Oct. 13
  17. Leaf Map – Using the leaf you found, you used it to inspire a map of an imaginary place. Oct. 13
  18. Six Word Stories of Place — You wrote two Six-Word-Stories, one of which had to be inspired by your National Park site. Oct. 17
  19. Haiku/Senses — You made a chart to gather some ideas on a walk, and then wrote a haiku poem. Oct. 18
  20. Tree Mapping — You created a map of trees located within the Norris School property. Oct 19
  21. Brainstorming Story Titles — You make a list if possible story titles. Oct. 29
  22. Teacher Passwords — You invented passwords for your teachers and checked the “hackability” of each one. Nov. 17
  23. Internet Map Reflection — You wrote about what you used to represent your life with technology. Nov. 21
  24. Treasure Map Story — You used the treasure map to write a story. Nov. 21
  25. Design A Fountain – In connection with our book, you designed a fountain for the classroom. Dec 7
  26. Illustrate Words — You chose five words from Lesson 7 and either did an illustration or a comic or word art. Dec 13
  27. AI Or Not? — After reading TFK, you wrote your own opinion about whether AI should be allowed in schools or not. Dec 13
  28. Make a Stamp — You designed a stamp for Western Massachusetts. Dec 14
  29. Year Behind – Year Ahead — You wrote about a memory of 2023 and a hope or wish for 2024. Jan 2
  30. Eponym Invention — You designed or discovered something and named it after yourself. Jan 4
  31. WW8 Jeopardy — You kept track of your guesses and your score for a review game. Jan 8
  32. Story Dice Story — You used the online Story Dice and used images there to write a story. Jan 9
  33. Build A Sentence – You built five sentences from the chart and illustrated three of them. Jan 17
  34. PoS Bingo — We played a game of Parts of Speech BINGO as a preview activity. Jan 19
  35. The Goldfish Incident — You made a comic (of at least five panels) that retold the Kindergarten story of Addie, Devin and the Goldfish. Jan. 19
  36. Directions To The Party — You wrote an expository paragraph with prepositions to bring a visitor to a secret place in Norris for a party. Jan 22
  37. Preposition Plaza — Using the sheet, you completed Sections C/D for this prompt. Jan 22
  38. Conjunction Sentence Expander — We played with conjunctions to go from simple sentences to complex. Jan 29
  39. PoS Bingo 2 — We did another round of Parts of Speech bingo. Feb. 5
  40. Parts of Speech Draft — this is where you wrote a narrative story of yourself (at least 10 sentences long) that you then used to code out Parts of Speech. Feb. 6
  41. Design a WW Game — You designed out a game for reviewing WW words. Feb. 27
  42. Caveat Emptor — You wrote out the text of an advertisement (with deceptive language) for an object in the classroom. March 4
  43. Rube Goldberg Contraption — You designed out a complicated Rube Goldberg Contraption and then wrote an Informational Paragraph explaining how it works. March 4
  44. Draw My Robot — You drew a robot, using Mr H’s informational text. March 6
  45. Draw My Robot 2 – You wrote directions for a robot. March 7
  46. Who Said It – You wrote responses to quotes from Flush. March 12
  47. Jasper Jr,. Viewpoint — You wrote a scene from Flush, flipping the point or view. March 18
  48. Draw My Robot 3 – You drew a robot, based on someone else’s directions. March 20
  49. Design a Theme Park — You created a theme park and made a map. March 21
  50. Trojan Horse Poem — we did some work looking at a poem. March 25
  51. Build A Message — you followed directions for a message. March 26
  52. Design a Quidditch Play — you diagrammed out a play and wrote a paragraph describing it March 27
